Amnesty International Slams Nigerian Military for Deadly Kaduna Airstrikes
Amnesty International has expressed alarm over a rise in civilian casualties from Nigerian military airstrikes. The rights group warned that such “reckless” attacks are becoming all too common. The organisation pointed to a December 3, 2023 strike in Tudun Biri village, Kaduna State. Witnesses say a first airstrike hit a religious gathering, and a second wave about 30 minutes later killed rescuers. Estimates suggest some 120 civilians died in one of the worst incidents linked to military operations. Amnesty criticised the military’s shifting explanations. It noted that initial claims of an accidental strike were later replaced with assertions that “suspected bandits” were present among civilians. The group has called for a transparent investigation and full accountability.
