False Humility vs True Humility: What Biblical Confidence Looks Like
Humility is not self-hatred, timidity, or pretending that your gifts do not exist. Philippians 2 teaches us to value others and follow Christ’s example, while Colossians 2 warns against outward displays of spirituality that do not transform the heart. False humility can appear as constant self-deprecation, fear of accepting praise, or avoiding responsibility because of insecurity. It keeps a person focused on managing opinions and appearing spiritual rather than obeying God with sincerity. True humility is rooted in God’s love and gives us the freedom to serve without seeking attention. It allows us to receive encouragement with grace, learn from others, and use our gifts faithfully. We do not need to hide our abilities or perform modesty; we can walk in quiet confidence while giving God the glory.
