FG Greenlights Electric Buses to Boost Local Automotive Manufacturing

The Federal Government has approved the purchase of electric buses for civil servants. This move aims to promote cleaner transport and strengthen local vehicle assembly. Director-General Joseph Osanipin of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) confirmed that the buses will come from domestic assemblers. The government is also rolling out charging stations nationwide to support electric vehicle adoption. NADDC is establishing the Nnewi Automotive Development Park in Anambra State. The shared-infrastructure model will lower setup costs and attract more investors. The council will train manufacturers in key components like batteries and tyres, while the Bank of Industry will manage the National Automotive Development Fund.
