Trump Defends Infantino as FIFA Faces Calls for His Resignation

US President Donald Trump has defended FIFA President Gianni Infantino, saying it would be a “terrible mistake” for football’s governing body to replace him. Trump praised Infantino’s leadership after the expanded World Cup hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. UEFA has called for Infantino to resign and warned it could boycott FIFA tournaments if the privatisation plan returned. Infantino, who has led FIFA for 10 years, is eligible to seek a fourth and final term at the 2027 FIFA Congress.
