Ex-Arsenal Defender Questions Gyökeres’ Pace and Killer Instinct
Former Arsenal defender Armand Traoré has questioned whether Viktor Gyökeres has the pace, presence and finishing instinct needed to dominate in the Premier League. He compared the Swedish striker unfavourably with former greats Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba. Traoré said he would not be overly worried about facing Gyökeres in a one-on-one situation, arguing that the Arsenal forward does not possess the speed that made Henry especially difficult for defenders. Gyökeres scored 21 goals in all competitions during his debut Arsenal campaign, but has recently featured mainly as a substitute following Kai Havertz’s return. Havertz’s reported injury concern could offer Gyökeres another opportunity to stake his claim for a regular starting place.
