Sand Eagles Step Up Training Ahead of Beach Soccer AFCON Qualifier Against Ghana
Nigeria’s Sand Eagles have intensified preparations for their Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie against Ghana, with all 20 invited players now in camp in Kaduna. The team has trained for the past week at the Murtala Muhammed Square Sports Complex under coach Christopher Kadiri. The first leg against Ghana’s Black Sharks is scheduled for Kaduna on 10 October, while the return leg will take place in Accra a week later. Nigeria returned to international beach soccer two years ago after a lengthy absence but missed qualification for the previous AFCON finals after losing to Mauritania on the away-goals rule. The winner of the two-legged tie will secure a place at the finals in Senegal. The Nigeria Football Federation is also discussing possible friendly matches with Senegal to give the Sand Eagles more competitive preparation before the decisive qualifier.
