Son Admits Freezing Late Mother’s Body for Two Years to Steal Her Pension
A 60-year-old man has pleaded guilty after keeping his late mother’s body in a chest freezer at his home in South Wales for more than two years. Retired company secretary Sylvia Phillips died in 2023. Her son, Christopher Phillips, continued to withdraw her monthly pension and savings for his own use instead of arranging a proper burial. The scheme collapsed when police, acting on a doctor’s welfare check request, discovered the body. Phillips has admitted preventing a lawful burial and two counts of fraud. He remains in custody pending a June sentencing, while an inquest investigates the cause of death.
