Customs Begins Implementing Tinubu-Approved 2026 Tariff Changes
The Nigeria Customs Service has begun implementing the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments approved by President Bola Tinubu. The reforms revise Nigeria’s customs and excise tariff framework and are intended to support local industries, improve trade compliance and strengthen revenue collection. The changes include revised Import Adjustment Tax and National Lists under the ECOWAS Common External Tariff for 2022–2027. They also cover updated import and export prohibition lists, revised excise-duty goods and a Green Tax surcharge for vehicles with engine capacities of 2,000cc and above. Customs urged importers, exporters, manufacturers, licensed agents and freight forwarders to study the updated schedules and comply with them in future transactions. The Service said the measures should provide clearer rules for trade, improve border administration and boost Nigeria’s industrial competitiveness.
