New Edo Assembly Speaker Explains Pressure That Led to Agbebaku’s Resignation
Edo State House of Assembly Speaker Yekini Idiaye says lawmakers pressured his predecessor, Blessing Agbebaku, to resign over alleged poor leadership, repeated adjournments and corruption concerns. Idiaye, who represents Akoko-Edo Constituency I, was elected Speaker after Agbebaku resigned amid an impeachment move reportedly backed by 17 of the Assembly's 24 members. He said the leadership change was intended to improve the Assembly's work and support Governor Monday Okpebholo's administration. The speakership moved to Edo North in line with the Assembly's zoning arrangement, as the governor is from Edo Central.
