Bovi Explains Why He Turns Down Roles That Could Typecast Him
Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma says he rejected several movie roles early in his career because they could have limited him to stereotypical characters. Speaking on a podcast, Bovi said he was repeatedly offered parts similar to his “Warri boy” character, including rustic village roles, gateman roles and other passive parts. He believed he had more range to offer as an actor. He said he still turns down roles that do not fit his career goals. According to him, typecasting can provide income, but he prefers to protect his versatility and long-term growth in the industry.
