RSUTH Launches Blood Pressure Screening Campaign, Urges Regular Checks
Rivers State University Teaching Hospital has launched its “Operation Check Your BP: Show Your Doctor” campaign to encourage regular blood pressure checks and strengthen preventive healthcare. At the launch on September 9, 2026, Chief Medical Director Prof. Chizindu Dike Alikor described hypertension as a silent killer that may go unnoticed while damaging vital organs. He warned that uncontrolled blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart failure, heart attack, kidney failure and blindness. The hospital’s cardiology team said the campaign will help staff and members of the public know their blood pressure status and take early action where necessary. RSUTH also urged public and private organisations to promote routine blood pressure screening.
