I believe Peter Obi’s emphasis on saving public money could have unintended consequences if it leads to cuts in government operations. Government needs to spend on development and public services, while keeping enough in reserve for emergencies. In my view, cutting the salaries and allowances of top officials would save relatively little compared with the government’s total spending.
