SERAP Sues INEC Over Undisclosed Political Donation Limits Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has sued the Independent National Electoral Commission over alleged failure to disclose political contribution limits under Section 91 of the Electoral Act 2026. SERAP is asking the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel INEC to state whether it has set donation limits, publish the applicable limits, and explain how they were communicated to political parties, candidates, donors and the public. The group also wants details of INEC’s systems for monitoring political donations and campaign spending ahead of the 2027 general elections. It is further seeking political parties’ recent financial statements, audited accounts, funding sources and reports of enforcement actions over alleged violations. SERAP argues that public access to political-finance rules and compliance reports is necessary for transparent elections and fair competition. No hearing date has been fixed for the case.
