Why Nigerians Are Ignoring the Growing Insecurity Crisis
I feel alarmed that four months have passed since over 140 people were kidnapped in Kwara State. No one seems to care. A video surfaced showing the captives being forced to convert, yet the authorities remain silent. It’s almost a year since bandits in Kaduna abducted an Anglican reverend and his family. The reverend was killed and distressing images of his wife and daughter were shared. Still, the national conversation moved on. Every day brings news of villages attacked by bandits or Boko Haram, yet we treat these horrors as background noise. We focus instead on elections, tribal rivalries, and online entertainment. If we don’t act now, more territory will fall into the hands of extremists. Each day we ignore this threat is another victory for bandits and Boko Haram. God save us all.
