LAWMA Deploys 25 Trucks to Clear Refuse Buildup in Oshodi
The Lagos Waste Management Authority has deployed 25 trucks for an emergency evacuation of accumulated refuse in Oshodi. The intervention covers areas including Bolade, Folorunsho Street and Oluwole, off Oshodi Road. LAWMA attributed the waste buildup to rising population density, insufficient bins, increased waste generation and collection tariffs that private operators say no longer cover operating costs. Oshodi has more than 350 streets, while some residents reportedly still pay ₦750 per room for waste collection. The agency says it is reviewing tariffs statewide and working with private waste operators, community associations and local authorities to improve collection. Residents were urged to provide adequate bins, pay collection charges and sort recyclable materials such as plastics, cans and paper.
