Standing Against the Ozoro “Festival of Rape”: A Call to End Gender-Based Violence
I reject every custom that dehumanizes women. Customs are made by humans and can be changed. On March 20, 2026, my younger brother told me about the Ozoro “festival of rape.” I was shocked to learn it was real. Videos show men abusing women who step outside during this ritual to honor a fertility goddess. No similar rule punishes men for appearing at a festival. This custom fuels gender-based violence. We must condemn all dehumanizing practices and hold perpetrators accountable. Victim-blaming must end. Parents must raise children with respect and empathy. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.
