Activist Exposes Delta Police Using On-Station POS to Extort ₦50,000 — 1 of 3
1 / 3

An activist in Delta State has accused officers from C Division of stationing a POS operator inside their office to extort money from residents. He shared footage showing the moment a local POS operator arrived at the station after the police detained a man on his way to the airport. The victim was held for hours and forced to transfer ₦51,500 before he was released. The forced detention caused him to miss his flight and incur extra expenses on a new ticket and hotel stay. The police complaints unit has since confirmed the arrest of the officers, who are to appear before the Commissioner of Police today.

Actually, I wouldn't be shocked if corrupt officers set up POS machines to prey on residents.

The fact that officers would physically host a POS operator inside the station suggests a systematic extortion model beyond isolated bad apples.

Citizens should document any roadside stops or station detentions and report these POS extortion attempts to independent oversight bodies or digital rights groups.
