AAC Sues Tinubu, National Assembly Over Alleged Failure to Transfer Power to Shettima

The African Action Congress has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja over President Bola Tinubu’s extended working vacation in Europe. The party alleges that he did not formally transfer presidential powers to Vice-President Kashim Shettima before leaving Nigeria. The suit asks the court to interpret Section 145 of the Constitution, which covers the transfer of presidential duties during an absence. The AAC also questions whether the National Assembly should have acted after the president’s absence reportedly exceeded 21 days. Tinubu, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly are listed as defendants. The presidency has maintained that Tinubu continued to oversee government business while abroad. The court has not yet ruled on the case.
