Imo Police Detain Traffic Warden, Two Civil Guards Over Alleged Extortion in Owerri
The Imo State Police Command has detained a traffic warden and two State Civil Guard Corps personnel following a viral video alleging that they harassed and extorted a motorist in Owerri on October 8. Police identified the officer as Inspector Chinewe Ejiogu of the Shell Camp Division. The two civil guard personnel were also identified and are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department. The Commissioner of Police has directed the Complaint Response Unit to investigate the allegation. The motorist involved has been asked to come forward with information, while the command said any officer found culpable will face disciplinary action. The command said traffic offences do not justify extortion, harassment or abuse of office.
