Tinubu Pledges to Restore Traditional Rulers’ Role in Grassroots Governance
President Bola Tinubu has vowed to strengthen the role of traditional rulers as active partners in Nigeria’s governance and grassroots development. Speaking at the farewell ceremony for the late Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona at Dipo Dina Stadium, he said his Renewed Hope Agenda elevates monarchs from ceremonial figures to key stakeholders in peacebuilding, conflict resolution and economic mobilisation. Tinubu assured that ongoing talks with the National Assembly and the National Council of Traditional Rulers will assign clearer constitutional responsibilities to monarchs. He urged royal fathers to make their palaces centres of wisdom, reconciliation and community security. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and other leaders paid tribute to Oba Adetona’s legacy and discussed bridging traditional institutions with modern democratic structures for national progress.
