Ukraine Develops Faster Interceptor Drones as Russia Expands Jet-Drone Attacks

Ukraine says it is speeding up development of interceptor drones to counter faster Russian jet-powered drones being used in attacks across the country. President Volodymyr Zelensky said nearly 1,500 drones were launched in four days, with more than half reportedly using jet engines. The newer Geran models are said to be much faster than earlier Shahed-type drones, placing extra pressure on Ukraine’s air-defence system. Russian strikes have targeted infrastructure and commercial sites, including warehouses, petrol stations, postal facilities and factories. Ukraine says several local companies are testing interceptor systems designed to be cheaper and faster than conventional air-defence options. Russia has also reportedly deployed the Banderol cruise missile against Odesa, disrupting activity along the Black Sea corridor used for grain exports.
