Ahmed Gumi: I’ll Support Boko Haram and IPOB if They Lay Down Their Arms
Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Ahmed Gumi says he would back Boko Haram, IPOB separatists and bandits if they disarm and agree to peace talks with the Nigerian government. In a recent interview, Gumi stressed that dialogue—not violence—is key to lasting peace. He says he always negotiates alongside police, military and other security agencies. “All we don’t want is violence. If IPOB or any group will come to the roundtable and discuss, I’m ready to support them,” he said. Gumi also accused the federal government of knowing terrorists’ identities and locations but failing to act. He urged a shift from heavy defense spending to investing in roads, electricity, healthcare and education. “Experts say 75 percent of the action should be non-kinetic,” he argued, calling for intellectuals and criminologists to help chart a new path out of insecurity.
