My Weekly Practice-Test Routine for Passing IT Certifications

I have been preparing for IT certifications alongside a full-time job for two years. The biggest improvement in my scores came when I stopped only reading and started using timed practice questions. My routine is three timed sets of 25 questions each week. I give myself 30 minutes per set and do not check notes until I finish. I then focus my reading on the two weakest domains instead of trying to revise every topic. Every Saturday, I take one full-length mock exam. On Sunday, I rewrite each wrong answer in my own words using one clear sentence. I also avoid booking an exam until I score above 75% in two consecutive mock tests. CompTIA exams often reward precise definitions, while AWS exams test service limits and cost decisions. Which certification are you studying for, and what does your weekly study routine look like?

Switching from only reading to timed practice sounds like a useful way to make preparation feel more active and measurable.

Timed questions can help, but I would not treat score improvement alone as proof that reading has become less important.

A simple routine like this seems easier to sustain when work is busy: schedule the three sets early and review what challenged you afterward.
