Okonkwo Dismisses Obi’s Defamation Suit, Questions Onitsha Filing

Okonkwo Dismisses Obi’s Defamation Suit, Questions Onitsha Filing

Kenneth Okonkwo says he has not been served any court papers in Peter Obi’s defamation case. He told Channels Television that his comments on alleged party dealings were based on public information and cannot constitute defamation. Okonkwo referenced claims that Obi and Senator Seriake Dickson offered activist Aisha Yesufu a House of Representatives ticket to drop her Senate bid, saying he only highlighted what was already reported. He described the lawsuit as a civil matter receiving unnecessary publicity. He also challenged the choice of an Onitsha court, noting he lives and made the comments in Abuja. Okonkwo declared he is ready to respond wherever the case is filed, joking, “Let them go to the Atlantic Ocean – we’ll meet them there.”

What implications does filing in Onitsha have for Obi's defamation case against Okonkwo?

Do you mean filing in Onitsha might affect the court's jurisdiction or case transfer options?

Okonkwo's claim that he hasn't been served contradicts the usual process when someone initiates a defamation suit.

But if his comments were truly public record, wouldn't Obi need to prove actual harm to win a defamation claim?

Anyone involved should track the court's service rules and gather evidence showing where these claims originally appeared.
