Tug McGraw: Baseball Career, Family Life and Legacy

Tug McGraw was an American Major League Baseball relief pitcher who played 19 seasons with the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. He helped the Mets win the 1969 World Series and secured the final out of the Phillies’ first World Series victory in 1980. Known for the phrase “Ya Gotta Believe,” McGraw became a fan favourite for his energy and resilience. He was a two-time All-Star and was later honoured by both the Mets and Phillies for his contribution to the game. McGraw was also the biological father of country singer Tim McGraw. He died from glioblastoma, a brain tumour, in January 2004 at age 59. Before his death, he established a foundation supporting people living with brain tumours, traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder.
