France Thrash D’Tigress 111-56 as Wakama Admits Rebuilding Challenge
France defeated Nigeria’s D’Tigress 111-56 to finish top of Group B at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany. The loss was Nigeria’s third straight defeat of the group stage. France took control early, leading 65-26 at halftime after making 14 three-pointers. They finished with a Women’s World Cup record of 22 three-pointers, led by Gabby Williams and Marine Johannes. Nigeria captain Amy Okonkwo said the team struggled to find its rhythm, while coach Rena Wakama described the squad as a work in progress. Wakama praised the effort of the younger players, including Grace Efosa, who scored 15 points, and said Nigeria must improve its player selection and preparation ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
