Retired DSS Officer Remanded Over Alleged IPOB Support

Retired DSS Officer Remanded Over Alleged IPOB Support

A retired Department of State Services officer, Nwaogu Ihechimere Ezeakolam, has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre after being arraigned on terrorism-related charges over alleged support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The DSS alleged that he joined IPOB and used social media to share messages supporting the group and encouraging members of the public to do the same. The four counts cite provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Cybercrimes Act. Ezeakolam pleaded not guilty to all charges. Justice Mohammed Umar adjourned the case until October 29 for the start of trial and ordered that he remain in custody pending then.
