Federal High Court Strikes Out Forgery Charge Against Adeyemi, Fresh FCT Case Planned
The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count forgery charge against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who was accused of presenting himself as Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council. The Federal Government asked the court to end the case after reviewing the file. Prosecutors said they found legal gaps and intend to file fresh charges at the FCT High Court, which they consider the proper court for the alleged offences. Adeyemi had pleaded not guilty to allegations of forgery, fraud and impersonation. He had been held in custody since his July arrest, while the court was yet to hear his bail request when the charge was withdrawn. Several witnesses had been listed, including officials from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and a police officer. The decision to strike out the case does not prevent a fresh arraignment at the FCT High Court.
