Viral Video of Prophet Abusing Child for ‘Witchcraft’ Claims Leads to Arrest in Ebonyi

Police in Ebonyi State have arrested Mr. Nwankpu James, a self-styled prophet, after a viral video showed him mistreating a child accused of witchcraft in Izzi Local Government Area. The rescued child is receiving medical care at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi Commissioner of Police said in a statement. Officers traced the suspect and the child’s parents in Isohumini Agbaja community before making the arrest. Investigations continue as the police reaffirm their commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of children. Neighbours say the child’s frequent illness prompted her parents to seek spiritual deliverance, but the prophet allegedly subjected her to degrading practices instead.
