NFF Sets Up Panel After Super Falcons Miss First Women’s World Cup

The Nigeria Football Federation has set up a fact-finding committee to examine recent poor results by the country’s national teams, including the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Nigeria’s ten-time WAFCON champions were knocked out in the quarter-finals in Morocco before losing 2-1 to South Africa in a playoff for the Inter-Confederation Playoffs. The loss ends the Super Falcons’ record of appearing at every Women’s World Cup since the competition began in 1991. The committee will also review the Flying Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations after their 4-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the WAFU B U-20 Championship final. Former NFF General Secretary Fanny Amun will chair the panel. Its members include Ladan Bosso, Desire Oparanozie, Mutiu Adepoju, Alex Mana and Mohammed Nasiru Sa’idu, who will serve as secretary.
