King’s College Workers Allege Forced Entry by Old Boys’ Association Amid Concession Dispute
The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria has alleged that members of the King’s College Old Boys Association, accompanied by police officers, entered King’s College, Lagos, during a protest over the proposed concession of the school. The union’s unit chairman, Samuel Enang, alleged that KCOBA members entered through a back gate, dispersed workers and parents at the main gate, and that several staff members were injured in the confrontation. He also alleged that police officers took away a staff member’s child. Workers remain opposed to the proposed public-private partnership arrangement, citing concerns about staff welfare, management and the future of the public school. The Federal Government has said King’s College is not being sold or privatised, maintaining that it will retain legal ownership while KCOBA funds rehabilitation and helps operate the institution.
