Kano Assembly Suspends Three LG Chairmen Over Misconduct Allegations

The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the chairmen of Bagwai, Bebeji and Rogo local government areas for three months over allegations of financial misappropriation, abuse of office and procurement breaches. The Assembly approved the recommendation of its Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs after it reviewed petitions, documents and submissions from the affected councils. Lawmakers alleged that the Bagwai chairman mismanaged funds meant for development projects. The Bebeji chairman faces allegations including improper land sales, contract irregularities, diversion of public funds and unlawful deductions from contractors. The Rogo chairman was accused of mismanaging funds allocated to feeder roads and electrification projects. The suspensions will remain in place pending a full investigation by the Assembly.

Suspension is not the same as a finding of guilt; the process should still give each chairman a fair chance to answer the allegations.
