Jorge Jesus Pledges to Speak with Ronaldo Over Any Issues

Portugal’s new head coach Jorge Jesus has dismissed claims that Cristiano Ronaldo is holding back the national team. Appointed after a disappointing World Cup exit, Jesus says the veteran forward ‘‘will not be a problem’’ for the squad. Speaking to Canal 11, he confirmed he will handle Ronaldo’s future carefully. ‘‘When the time comes, I will speak individually with Cristiano and with all the other players,’’ he said. Jesus and Ronaldo already share a strong bond from their recent success at Al Nassr. The coach insists that age won’t dictate his decision and calls Ronaldo ‘‘a symbol of Portugal’’ whose place in history is secured.
