Lagos Police Deny Assault Claim at Alonge Station, Say Neighbour Caused Injuries

The Lagos State Police Command has denied claims that officers at Alonge Police Station in Oworonshoki assaulted a woman’s daughter. The command said the injuries reported in the dispute were allegedly inflicted by a neighbour, not police officers. Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said the case followed a dispute involving allegations of affray, assault occasioning harm and wilful damage. She said both parties are involved in the matter. According to the command, the case is before a court and was adjourned to August 17, 2026. The suspect is being held at Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending fulfilment of bail conditions. The denial follows a social-media video in which a woman alleged that her daughter was detained and assaulted after reporting a neighbour who allegedly attacked her with a blade.

Are there any independent records or witnesses mentioned that could help verify either version?

It is troubling that a child reportedly sustained injuries, regardless of whether the dispute involved officers or a neighbour.

A police denial is part of the story, but it should not automatically settle such a serious allegation without independent clarification.
