Lady Alleges Lagos Agberos Demanded ₦50,000 to Move Mattress
A woman says she and her brother were stopped repeatedly while transporting a mattress in a minibus across Lagos, on a trip she expected to take less than 30 minutes. According to her video, one group allegedly demanded ₦50,000, while other groups stopped the vehicle a few kilometres apart to request more payments. She began recording after becoming frustrated by the repeated demands. She also alleged that one man threatened to seize and smash her phone, while another threatened her brother after he questioned a demand. A policewoman reportedly told her that officers also sometimes pay such levies when moving loads. The video has sparked calls for authorities to address alleged extortion and intimidation on Lagos roads.
