Resident Doctors Give Federal Government Two Weeks to Resolve Welfare Demands

The National Association of Resident Doctors has given the Federal Government two weeks to resolve outstanding welfare and professional issues or risk industrial action. The doctors are demanding improved pay, allowances, career progression, prompt payment of house officers’ entitlements and a review of salary structures to reflect current economic conditions. They also cited excessive workloads, staff shortages, poor hospital infrastructure and concerns about attacks on health workers. NARD said the migration of doctors and other health professionals has worsened pressure on those still working in Nigerian hospitals. It urged the Federal and state governments, as well as the National Assembly, to improve healthcare funding, staffing, equipment and working conditions before the ultimatum expires.
