Police Report 42 Arrests, Kidnap Rescues and Drug Raids Across 13 States in 24 Hours

The Nigeria Police Force says it recorded 42 arrests and several rescues during operations across 13 states between August 10 and 11, 2026. In Kogi, security operatives rescued nine passengers who were kidnapped along the Mameramo-Adomu Road and recovered two vehicles. In Delta, three victims abducted during a land-clearing attack in Ozoro were freed and are receiving medical care. In the FCT, police arrested four suspected one-chance operators accused of robbing a passenger of ₦1.2 million. A suspected vehicle-theft syndicate member was also arrested, with a Mercedes-Benz E350 and four master keys recovered. Other operations led to arrests for alleged drug dealing, murder, defilement and kidnapping in Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Oyo, Ekiti, Kwara and Jigawa. Police also reported repelling armed bandits in Katsina and carrying out rescue and attempted-murder operations in Lagos. The cases have been transferred to the relevant State CID commands for further investigation.

Do we know whether the rescued passengers in Kogi have been reunited with their families, and what happens next in the investigation?

Nine passengers rescued on that road is a major relief, especially considering how frightening such an ordeal must be for victims and families.

The arrests and raids sound encouraging, but one 24-hour report alone does not show whether these operations will reduce crime over time.
