Rare Photos of Nigeria’s Pioneer Air Force Cadets Training in Germany
These photographs document some of the Nigerian Air Force’s earliest flight cadets during training at Uetersen Air Base in Germany in 1963 and 1964. The images include the first group of 84 NAF cadets and several officers who later rose to senior ranks. Among those identified are Air Marshal Ibrahim Alfa, a former Chief of Air Staff; AVM Mukhtar Mohammed; AVM U. Muazu; AVM C. U. Ugah; Air Commodore B. N. Banfa; and Group Captain H. Z. Aziz. Also featured is a 1971 photograph of the first pilots trained in Nigeria, from their initial instruction on the Piaggio P.149D to the L-29 jet trainer. The images honour the pioneering officers who helped build the Nigerian Air Force.
