Family Seeks Answers Over Man’s Death After Alleged Delays at LASUTH Emergency Unit

My brother, Olatunde Joseph Ojelabi, was involved in a road crash on Ijegun Road, Ikotun, on 6 September 2026 while driving his family to church. He sustained serious facial injuries after swerving to avoid a commercial tricycle and crashing into a stationary vehicle. He was taken to LASUTH after a private hospital referred him for more advanced care. Our family alleges that he waited outside the emergency ward for more than six hours because no bed was available. His condition reportedly worsened, and he later convulsed and suffered cardiac arrest before resuscitation and transfer to the ICU. We also experienced poor communication about his treatment, tests and medications, which cost millions of naira. My brother died on 12 September 2026, five days after his 46th birthday. I am asking the Lagos State Government, LASUTH management and relevant regulators to investigate whether emergency protocols were followed and whether delays in care contributed to his death. No family should be left wondering whether a loved one could have survived with faster emergency treatment.
