UAE Resumes Support for Anti-Houthi Forces as Saudi Arabia Offers Air Cover
The United Arab Emirates has agreed to resume funding selected anti-Houthi forces in southern Yemen, while Saudi Arabia will provide air cover, according to sources in Yemen. The deal signals a possible easing of tensions between the two Gulf countries over Yemen’s future. Both countries are concerned about continued Houthi advances and attacks on Saudi airports and energy infrastructure. The UAE-backed Giants Brigades are expected to be among the forces involved. Meanwhile, Yemen’s internationally recognised government has launched a counteroffensive aimed at pushing Houthi forces from Sanaa, with limited progress reported around Majzar and the Bab al-Mandab strait.
