Warri–Itakpe Train Accident Death Toll Rises to Five
The Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Nigerian Railway Corporation have confirmed five fatalities in the Warri–Itakpe train crash. The victims include four adult passengers and one baby. The disaster occurred on June 8 along the WITS corridor near Agbor, Delta State. Four coaches capsized and one derailed, injuring 24 people seriously. Many others sustained milder injuries and are receiving treatment. A total of 482 people were on board, including passengers, crew, security personnel, and service providers. Rescue teams from the Delta State Government, NEMA, FRSC, police, civil defence, and local responders completed evacuation by 6:30pm. Authorities have retrieved the full manifest and begun identifying victims. A formal investigation into the cause is under way. Condolences have been extended to grieving families, and support is being provided to all affected.
