Analyst Warns Tinubu Over Wike’s Rainbow Coalition Ahead of 2027
A political scientist has urged President Bola Tinubu to manage his relationship with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike carefully as disagreement grows over the proposed Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 elections. Wike says the coalition is meant to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election while allowing participating politicians to remain in their different parties. However, some APC leaders and governors argue that the arrangement could weaken the party’s candidates in governorship, National Assembly and state assembly contests. The Progressive Governors Forum has said it will support only officially nominated APC candidates. Wike maintains that the coalition is not an APC project and has accused some governors of hiding their own political concerns behind the President’s name. The analyst warned that political alliances should not be allowed to weaken parties or democratic institutions as politicians prepare for the 2027 general elections.
