Nigeria Could Be Declared Ebola-Free by December 7 if No New Cases Emerge
Nigeria could be declared free of the Ebola outbreak by December 7, 2026, if no additional confirmed or probable cases are recorded and the required surveillance period is validated. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, said the 42-day countdown began after the imported index patient was evacuated to Switzerland for further treatment on October 26. He said health authorities are monitoring identified contacts, investigating alerts and strengthening preparedness in health facilities. The target remains conditional, as any new confirmed or probable case would restart the countdown. Nigerians have been urged to stay calm, cooperate with contact-tracing teams and rely on updates from the NCDC and the Federal Ministry of Health.
