Odegbami: Super Eagles Must Rediscover Their Fighting Spirit After Guinea-Bissau Defeat
I was left speechless by Nigeria’s defeat to Guinea-Bissau. The Super Eagles were outplayed and, in my view, lacked the energy, organisation and determination expected of the national team. The loss recalls difficult moments in Nigerian football history. After heavy defeats in 1990 and 1996, Nigerian teams responded with strong performances at the Africa Cup of Nations and the Atlanta Olympics. The present decline is deeper than one result. The team must rediscover the intensity, confidence and competitive spirit that defined past Nigerian internationals if it is to recover.
