PSAC Colloquium Calls for Greater Youth Inclusion in Nigeria’s Leadership
Stakeholders at a youth development colloquium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have called for young Nigerians to be treated as active contributors to national development rather than merely “leaders of tomorrow.” Speakers at the Peace and Social Advancement Centre event urged governments, communities and institutions to create practical opportunities for youth participation in governance, skills development, mentorship and enterprise. They argued that young people need real leadership experience today to become effective leaders in the future. Participants also called for education reforms that prioritise critical thinking, communication, entrepreneurship and problem-solving. They stressed the need for inclusive policies that expand opportunities for young women and other marginalised groups. The discussion further urged political leaders to avoid divisive rhetoric and place national unity above partisan interests.
