Lagos Plans Data-Driven School Quality Reforms as 44 Evaluators Oversee 15,293 Schools
The Lagos State Government says it is strengthening education quality assurance to improve teaching standards and learning outcomes in public and private schools. At an education roundtable in Ikeja, officials said the proposed approach will focus on continuous school improvement, teacher development, clear performance standards and data-based monitoring rather than routine inspections alone. The Office of Education Quality Assurance disclosed that 44 evaluators currently oversee about 15,293 schools and 162,000 teachers statewide. Stakeholders called for stronger school-based assessments, better access to learning resources and closer collaboration among government, parents, communities and school administrators. The state plans to develop an implementation roadmap with measurable targets and benchmark its quality assurance system against practices in countries such as Kenya, South Africa and Egypt.
