Poland Awaits US Decision on Permanent Military Base by End of 2026

Poland expects the United States to decide by November or December 2026 whether to establish a permanent military base in the country. Polish Deputy Defence Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said the outcome will follow Washington’s review of its military presence in Europe. The final decision will rest with US President Donald Trump. Poland has prepared a shortlist of possible sites but has not made the locations public. About 10,000 US troops are already in Poland, mostly on rotational deployments. Warsaw has also discussed hosting up to 15,000 American troops through a mix of permanent and rotational postings. Separately, Poland is awaiting a decision on its bid to host a European PAC-3 missile service centre, which could speed up repairs for Patriot air-defence systems.
