Court of Appeal Dismisses Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Election Eligibility Appeal, Imposes ₦3m Costs
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has rejected Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s challenge to a November 24, 2025 Federal High Court ruling on his election eligibility. A three-member panel led by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam held that the trial court acted properly in allowing plaintiff Akindele Egbuwalo to amend his suit. The panel found no evidence that the governor was denied a fair hearing. The appeal was dismissed for lacking merit. The court awarded ₦2 million in costs against the governor and upheld its January 27, 2026 stay order, imposing an additional ₦1 million fine for seeking to set it aside. The governor’s next step is to appeal to the Supreme Court.
