Pope Urges Church to Speak Out Against Evil and Defend Life
In his May 6 general audience at St Peter’s Square, the Pope reminded Catholics that the Church must read history through the Gospel. He urged believers to denounce evil in every form and to proclaim Christ’s salvation through word and action. As guardian of hope, the Church is called to reject anything that undermines life. It must take a clear stand for the poor, the exploited, victims of violence and war, and all who suffer in body and spirit. This reflection forms part of the Pope’s series on Lumen Gentium from the Second Vatican Council. He highlighted the Church’s transcendent mission and its final horizon of justice, love and peace in God’s kingdom.
