Madonna University Expels Final-Year Nursing Student, Suspends 14 Others Over Viral Hospital Dance Video
Madonna University, Elele, Rivers State, has expelled a final-year nursing student and suspended 14 other 500-level nursing students over a viral TikTok video filmed in parts of its teaching hospital. The students were seen dancing in locations including a waiting area, corridor, staircase and a bus. The video was part of the “Gen Z nurses” social-media trend and later gained wide attention online. The university confirmed that the video was recorded within its teaching hospital and said it would issue an official position. NANS and the Nigerian Universities Nursing Students’ Association have appealed for the sanctions to be reviewed, arguing that expulsion is too severe for a student close to graduation. Public reaction has been divided. Some say nursing students must uphold professional standards in clinical spaces, while others believe a warning, suspension or community service would be a more proportionate punishment.
